Aim

To strengthen Gurung Society Kent by empowering our youth to learn, lead, and preserve Kaura dance a significant and historic cultural tradition of the Gurung community.

Background

This initiative was proposed by Mr. Roshan Gurung, a youth member of Gurung Society Kent and a Top 8 finalist in Nepal’s prestigious dance reality show, Mero Dance Universe. His proposal received strong support from the majority of GSK committee members, recognising both the cultural value and the leadership potential it brings to our society.

Following this endorsement, committee members approached the youth, resulting in ten young participants committing to learn Kaura dance. Under Mr. Roshan Gurung’s guidance, the full choreography has already been completed. The group now requires further structured practice to refine the performance for final visualisation.

This initiative is being carried out with the lead support of the GSK Cultural Secretary, her team, and other committee members, ensuring cultural accuracy, organisational oversight, and smooth coordination.

Proposal

We propose to continue and complete the Kaura Dance Visualisation Project, led by youth. The next phase includes additional practice sessions, cultural refinement, and the production of a professionally recorded visual presentation featuring youth dancers and community members.

The final video will serve as a permanent cultural archive, supporting future generations in learning, understanding, and preserving Kaura dance.
